Jaguar XF J028: fuel-pump power supply and an engine cut-out risk
The December filing concerned a limited group of petrol XF vehicles and an additional wiring harness.
J028 / 12V-571
Jaguar’s US report dated 6 December 2012 initiated J028, recorded by NHTSA as 12V-571. It concerned certain 2013 model-year petrol XF vehicles built during October 2012. Model year 2013 does not make this a 2013 announcement.
The failure was in the electrical supply path
The engine controller commanded a Fuel Pump Driver Module. Power reached that module through the rear body-control/fuse-box assembly and a protective transistor. Excessive current could trigger repeated protection and eventual thermal shutdown, stopping the in-tank pump.
Fuel starvation could stall the engine with little warning. Engine cut-out could also reduce braking and steering assistance. The report distinguished reduced assistance from complete loss of the underlying brake and steering mechanisms.
What the campaign changed
The specified remedy was an overlay wiring harness incorporating a relay to provide the pump’s power feed. It was a defined campaign repair, not a recommendation to bypass protection on an unrelated vehicle or replace every fuel pump.
Read the date attached to each population figure
The initial US report listed 13 vehicles. A later amendment corrected that initial US population to nine; later campaigns must not be folded into the December count. The Dutch record separately gives an announcement date of 11 December 2012, followed by publication on 4 March 2013.
Check the individual vehicle
The market, VIN and repair-completion record determine applicability. This electrical-supply concern is separate from J027, which addressed a fuel outlet flange. Similar symptoms or the same model name do not make the campaigns interchangeable.
Historical campaign summary. Applicability and completion must be checked for the individual vehicle.
