Before buying a replacement electronic module
Practical preparation advice from JLRTECH.
Keep the original identifiers
Save clear photographs of the original module’s label before ordering another unit. If a replacement has already been purchased, keep its photographs separate and identify both units clearly. The vehicle model, year and reason for replacement are equally important.
Do not judge by appearance alone
A similar case, connector or product description is not enough to define a suitable job. Compatibility and the required operation must be assessed for the particular module and vehicle. A donor should be reviewed before fitting or shipping it.
Programming is not the same as cloning
Programming, configuration, adaptation and transferring usable original data are different tasks. The correct route depends on the case. Readability of the original and the suitability of the replacement affect whether a data-transfer assessment is appropriate.
Agree the remaining vehicle work
Ask what the agreed module task will achieve, who will install the unit and which checks are still required on the vehicle. Tell us about any earlier programming attempts or modifications. Keep the original until the job and final checks are complete.
Send the information first
Use the enquiry form with label photographs, the vehicle details, fault reports and a description of the previous work. Do not send modules until the items and arrangements have been confirmed.
