C-X75: production plans ended, but the engineering programme retained its value

The December decision separated a proposed customer supercar from the prototypes being developed with Williams.

Contemporary reporting on 11 December 2012 recorded Jaguar’s decision not to proceed with customer production of the C-X75. The company’s later technical account explicitly confirmed that the decision had been taken in 2012 because of the global economic climate.

The concept and the production proposal were different stages

The original C-X75 had appeared in 2010. A proposed production programme followed in 2011 with Williams as an engineering partner. Cancelling that commercial plan did not mean that the earlier show car had suddenly become a production model, or that all technical work stopped.

Research continued beyond the sales decision

The December report described five prototypes being completed as development test beds. Jaguar subsequently characterised the project as a means of investigating hybrid propulsion, lightweight composites and vehicle engineering. That later confirmation supports the distinction between cancellation of sales and abandonment of research.

Keep later specifications in their own chronology

The original turbine concept, the evolving Williams-engineered hybrid and later demonstration cars are not one fixed specification. This account records the December 2012 decision. It does not present later published power figures or film-car hardware as equipment already delivered to customers in 2012.
