Jaguar’s Japan navigation disc correction: a junction-data problem
A map update could exceed what the installed navigation system could handle at one specific junction. The correction was a revised disc.
02DJD7800
On 23 July 2012, Jaguar Land Rover Japan reported a voluntary improvement for a 2011-edition DVD navigation map disc sold as an update for X-Type, S-Type and XJ systems. The official notice covered 740 discs, part number 02DJD7800.
This was a navigation-data correction, rather than a safety recall of 740 cars or an announcement of a new navigation unit. The distinction matters because the affected item was an update medium supplied for existing equipment.
At a glance
- Voluntary improvement started: 23 July 2012.
- 2011-edition Japanese DVD map disc: 02DJD7800.
- 740 discs shipped from May 2011 to March 2012.
- Systems listed: Jaguar X-Type, S-Type and XJ DVD navigation.
- Correction: replace the disc with data adapted to the system.
The route-guidance interruption
The official notice identified Nishi-Shinjuku Junction on Tokyo’s Metropolitan Expressway Route 4. Increased branch data in the 2011 map edition was not supported by the installed system. When route guidance operated near that junction, the navigation could show a data-acquisition message for approximately 20 seconds before returning to its normal display.
The filing described this specific location and data interaction. It did not describe a general loss of all navigation, an engine-management problem or a failure of the car’s access system.
Why replacing the disc was the stated remedy
The improvement replaced the map disc with a version whose data the existing system could handle. It did not call for every navigation module or display to be replaced. The explanatory document distinguished the display module, GPS antenna and navigation module as parts of the overall arrangement.
A data-compatibility problem can therefore resemble an equipment fault to the user while requiring a different correction. This historical example does not prove that any later frozen screen will be cured by a disc change; the actual symptom, media and hardware still need identification.
740 parts does not mean 740 confirmed failures
The affected quantity referred to discs shipped between May 2011 and March 2012. The notice recorded one complaint and no accidents. It did not say that every supplied disc had already caused a complaint, nor provide a one-to-one count of affected vehicles.
Owners were to be informed through dealers by telephone or direct mail. For a surviving system, the relevant checks include market, navigation equipment and exact disc edition. The July record is useful because it preserves the specific correction without inventing a broader defect or a software capability the system never had.
Historical campaign information. Applicability and completion must be checked against the individual vehicle’s VIN and market records.
