What to include in an electronics enquiry
Practical preparation advice from JLRTECH.
Start with the vehicle
Give the make, exact model and year. Describe the symptom in ordinary words: for example, whether the dashboard wakes, the ignition switches on, or the engine turns without starting. Explain when it began and what was happening immediately beforehand.
Keep the original evidence
If a workshop has already read fault codes, send the complete report rather than typing a shortened description. Include the exact dashboard message. A fault label is useful evidence but is not, by itself, confirmation that a particular part needs replacing.
Photograph module labels clearly
Take readable pictures of the complete label and all relevant numbers. If a donor is proposed, photograph both units and identify which is the original. Include connector and case photographs if requested. Avoid cropped or blurred images that cut off the identifiers.
List previous work
Mention battery issues, replacement parts, attempted programming, modifications and any assessment already carried out. Retain the original module where practical. Please do not remove or ship parts until the required items and arrangements have been agreed.
Ask for a defined next step
Say what you need help with and where the vehicle is located. We can then discuss whether the next step is a vehicle assessment, a workshop visit or a supported module-data enquiry. Use the contact form to keep the details and photographs together.
