Halewood moves to three-shift production
A new night shift expanded production of Evoque and Freelander 2.
HALEWOOD / THREE SHIFTS
On 15 August 2012, Halewood began round-the-clock production for the first time in its fifty-year history. The new night shift started at 21:30.
From recruitment to production
A March recruitment programme had sought 1,000 operators, supervisors and engineers. The August announcement described a workforce of 4,500 and three shifts manufacturing the Range Rover Evoque and updated Freelander 2. Trial night shifts had taken place in July.
The supply chain behind the change
On 11 May, JLR announced an additional £1 billion of UK supply contracts over four years. It also described an Ellesmere Port logistics facility, to be managed by DHL, supporting both Halewood models and expected to create around 300 jobs.
An industrial change, not a new derivative
The extra shift concerns production capacity and vehicle supply. It does not by itself indicate different specifications, a new model generation or revised service procedures for an individual car.
Historical reference card: the dates describe announcements and project stages, not a photograph of an operating factory.
