Engineered to Order: specialist engineering behind the special editions
The Beijing announcement explained ETO’s role in luxury, performance and personalisation.

On 23 April 2012 Jaguar Land Rover used the Beijing presentation of XJ Ultimate to explain the role of ETO, short for Engineered to Order. Its remit combined special editions, personalisation and specialist vehicle engineering.
More than a trim catalogue
The announcement connected earlier XKR-S engineering and Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate craftsmanship with the new XJ Ultimate and Evoque Special Edition. ETO designers and engineers worked alongside the main product-development teams.
Read the individual specification
A division name is not a list of parts fitted to every vehicle. The XJ Ultimate, performance derivatives and special Evoque served different purposes. Their separate equipment descriptions remain the useful reference for identifying a vehicle.
