i54 engine plant: construction for a future engine family
Construction in South Staffordshire was a manufacturing milestone, ahead of engine introduction.
i54 / CONSTRUCTION BEGINS
Construction of JLR’s advanced engine facility at i54 South Staffordshire Business Park began on 20 June 2012. The date is recorded in the company’s 7 November quarterly announcement.
What the 2012 project covered
JLR described a £355 million investment and 750 jobs. Its July Science Museum announcement identified the intended products as a next generation of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
Separate the factory timeline from the car
The November report still described construction as ongoing. These records establish investment and building work; they do not say that the new engine family was already in series production or fitted across the 2012 vehicle range.
For parts and servicing, identify the engine actually installed using the vehicle’s build data. A factory construction date cannot establish engine compatibility.
Historical reference card: the dates describe announcements and project stages, not a photograph of an operating factory.
