- Announcement: New York, 5 April 2012.
- Award: World Car Design of the Year.
- The initial eligible field contained 46 vehicles.
A design award with its own selection
The competition began with 46 eligible vehicles. A panel of five design specialists selected the shortlist before the wider World Car jury voted. The award recognised automotive design within the World Car programme; it was a distinct title, not a claim that the Evoque had won every category.
What made this a separate moment
The January North American Truck of the Year result and the April design award came from different competitions. One considered a broad set of vehicle attributes within a North American category. The other focused on design through an international selection. Combining them into a single award would lose the sequence of events.
Recognition for a compact Range Rover
Land Rover presented the result as another milestone in the Evoque’s growing collection of awards. Its announcement described the model’s compact proportions and a recognisable Range Rover identity as central to the response. The significance was the reception of the original design, rather than a newly announced engine, body or facelift.
